Fun trip out around Keystone
Follow up:
Camping out by the base of Georgia Pass there is quite a network of trails. These trails wander between Hwy 285 near Grant to the Keystone Ski Area. It is neat to see the bare slopes in the summer and no one spends much time in the area.
Running from Keystone we ran south to Handcart Gulch via Webster Pass, this pass changes year to year and is not for the faint of hear if you do NOT like shelf roads. At times there is one narrow section that may tip you as far as 30 degrees with a drop of a couple hundred feet out the driver window, granted you will not go any where but it will get your attention.
After dropping to the base you take a turn back up to begin the accent of Red Cone. AMAZING scenery.
The top of this peak runs just about 13,000 feet. And at the top you are just walking the ridge line for what feels like miles!
Then reight before the infamous decent of Red cone.
The descent changes every year... on the driver side it is a sheer drop and the passenger side is not much better but it i not quite as sheer. It can be anything from a controlled decent and on the bad years it becomes so loose its just a controlled slide for a couple hundred feet.
The next route to return to camp took us over Radical Hill.. lots of rocks and some interesting turns.
After running the ridges on top of Radical for a few miles we finally drop back into Swan Gulch... the campsite is down near the bottom.
Great day of wheeling.
More pics here along with bigger versions.
